Run by Thierry and Elisabeth Falconnier, this charming restaurant is a real institution in the Freiburg area. Set in a little house by Gundelfingen's railway station, the place has a cheerful, easygoing feel. Inside, watercolours by the owners' daughter adorn the walls; outside, the cosy terrace is lovely in summer. True to his roots, the chef-patron serves up French cuisine – pleasingly pared down, brimming with flavour and made from excellent ingredients. Fish is the speciality here: think salmon carpaccio, monkfish with porcini or grilled sea bass. Meat lovers are also well catered for, with highlights such as Ibérico pork chop or braised beef cheeks.
