This family-run business in the Hedelfingen district has been renowned for its fine cuisine for many years and is popular with older and younger diners alike. It all began in 1985 with Susanne and Hendrik Schallmeir, and now their son Gabriel and his wife Lia – the second generation – have joined the team. In the small open kitchen, father and son work like a well-oiled machine, upholding Swabian culinary traditions while embracing inspiration from modern international cuisine. Their menu ranges from classics such as Zwiebelrostbraten (braised beef with onions and gravy) and Kässpätzle, to Kalbsleber Berliner Art (veal liver with onions and apple), or skrei with fregola sarda, Mediterranean vegetables and cavolo nero. Tip: Purchase house-made Maultaschen (Swabian pockets) to enjoy at home. In keeping with the traditional roots of the cuisine, this place oozes rustic charm and has a really cosy atmosphere. The leafy terrace is lovely in summer.
