Two centuries of accumulated life fill Solar das Tilias, a Serra da Estrela manor where grandfather clocks stand in the hallway, portraits crowd the walls, and the ochre sitting room with its open fireplace feels like a house that time has simply forgotten to change. The Queen Saint Suite has painted plasterwork ceilings, a working fireplace, and a four-poster beneath blue damask wallpaper. Other rooms have Persian rugs, original wooden floors, and bathrooms lined in deep green ceramic with brass fittings from another era. Breakfast, served beneath a crystal chandelier, reflects the produce of the surrounding region.
