We’ve been talking for years about how stylish a city Munich is, but even with that knowledge, The Dean Munich – Autograph Collection comes as something of a surprise. The rooms manage to combine luxe contemporary design, the bold graphic lines are a nod to 1980s Munich, and a touch of old-world elegance, with layers of velvet, polished wood and glossy lacquer paired with the signature curves of the early 20th century Jugendstil movement.

No less inspired are the public spaces, from Ibasho, the Japanese-inspired restaurant, to the Lobby Lounge & Bar, an all-day hang out for coffee, drinks and light bites where cream lacquer walls and modern geometric moldings are accessorized with highlights of hi shine metal. The bottom line? There are “hip” hotels, and then there are hotels that are authentically hip — and it’s to the latter tendency that The Dean Munich definitively belongs.
