Gonten, Switzerland’s Appenzeller Huus family comprises three hotels side by side: the three-star Huus Bären, the four-star Huus Löwen, and this one, the five-star contemporary-luxe Huus Quell. Newly constructed, it resembles its historical siblings in its silhouette, but its details are unmistakably modern — just as, inside, it contains gestures towards traditional Alpine design, but updated for the 21st century.

Its 30 rooms and suites are similarly a perfect balance of Alpine coziness and luxury-boutique stylishness, and they’re as comfortable as they are visually appealing. They’re restorative enough on their own, but they’re joined by what might be the region’s most extravagant spa and wellness center, which ranges over 2,200 square meters and contains nine pools, eight saunas and stream grottos, and even a high-tech biohacking lab.

And in the areas of dining and drinking, Huus Quell benefits from access to all three of the Appenzeller Huus hotels; options range from the very traditional Löwenstobe to the architectural spectacle that is the gourmet Quell restaurant.
