Most hotels fit neatly somewhere on a continuum between the traditional and the modern, but Hôtel Saint-Georges defies easy categorization. On the one hand, it’s a classic Savoyard lodge whose interiors are just about as far as it’s possible to get from “quiet luxe” minimalism. But nor are these spaces traditional, exactly — instead, the aesthetic is a sort of heightened Alpine fantasy as interpreted by the British artist and designer Luke Edward Hall.
Thus the atmosphere is one of a kind, and far more memorable than the vast majority of ski hotels. But Hôtel Saint-Georges handles the more prosaic tasks of the Alpine lodge hotel with equal élan. The lifts are a two-minute walk from the hotel’s door, and the rooms and suites, for all their country-house charm, are functionally on a level with any high-end boutique hotel.
Meanwhile the wellness area offers massages, fitness, and contrast therapy, using hot and cold tubs to refresh the muscles of tired skiers. The Piano Bar takes the àpres-ski tradition in a more elegant direction, while Restaurant Le Trappeur blends bistro tradition and Alpine flavors.
