Sitting in the Galician village of Gaxate, the Swiss-designed Villa Boutique 1880 remained in the hands of three generations of the same local family before it was sensitively transformed into a hotel. To respect this heritage, individually designed rooms take their names and character from the building’s architectural details and family stories, but expect a mix of classic neutral shades, rustic beams, and original arched windows that look across the manicured gardens. It’s here you’ll find the outdoor heated pool, which can be complemented by a number of different yoga classes — Hatha, Vinyasa, and even Tog Chöd and Tibetan Sword Yoga — or with spa treatments that combine the relaxing properties of massage, aromatherapy and sound healing. The restaurant puts a contemporary riff on Galician flavors and produce with a seafood-driven menu and Spanish dessert favorites such as filloas, torrijas, and baked cheesecake.
