Proprietor and Chef Fernay McPherson may have grown up in The Fillmore, but this laid-back, friendly spot is deeply rooted in her family's southern heritage—as one bite of her flavorful, homey cooking will amply prove. Named after McPherson's great-aunt, Minnie, and her grandmother, Lillie Bell, there can be little doubt that she does them proud here. The satisfyingly crunchy golden brown fried chicken, tender and lightly scented with rosemary, is well-deserving of its acclaim. Likewise, sides of delicately sweet brown butter cornbread and melty baked mac and cheese, made with a blend cheddar, fontina, and parmesan, with chewy, crisp edges, are exemplary. Don't neglect to try the house-made hot-sauce, and your soul will surely be satisfied.
