It may be an illustration of how times have changed that even the northern Icelandic town of Akureyri, only the fifth largest of the island’s settlements, finds itself in need of an attractive, thoughtfully designed, and fun boutique hotel. Hotel Akureyri is, as its name suggests, a significant fixture on the local hospitality scene, and rambles across four distinct buildings on the south side of the city center.
From here just about everything in town is within easy reach, from the convention center and the botanical garden to the local shops and restaurants. On the latter score, however, Hotel Akureyri is a destination unto itself, serving an abundant daily breakfast and containing not only one of the town’s better bars, but a fine restaurant as well.
