A setting within the medieval city center of Rhodes would be remarkable enough; in Kókkini Porta Rossa a local family has transformed a derelict house, long ago associated with the Knights of Saint John, into a richly detailed and uniquely atmospheric six-room boutique hotel. It’s an amateur production in the best possible sense of the word: made not out of professional obligation but out of sheer love of the place. In its services it’s perhaps more bed and breakfast than hotel per se; the breakfast, however, is an extremely fine one, and your hosts have prepared a multitude of recommendations for getting around Rhodes.
