Barely large enough to be called a hotel, Gekkoju Yufuin is a five-suite villa on the eastern fringes of the town of Yufu, practically in the shadow of the volcanic peak that is Yufudake. What it lacks in sheer size it more than makes up for in comfort; its suites, furnished in a lavish Western style, are served by butlers, and are provided with every conceivable luxury, including en suite soaking baths. The picturesque streets of Yufu and the legendary landscapes of the surrounding region are easily accessible, and the cuisine is an artful fusion of Japanese and French traditions.
