Modern Design & Lively
Zakopane, in southern Poland’s Tatra Mountains, is the country’s most famous mountain town, serving as a ski resort in winter and an all-around adventure hub in warmer months. Stary Niedźwiedź, at the base of the mountains at the south end of town, is perhaps best known for its fine restaurant — but given the setting and the distinctive design of the lodging, it’s well worth spending the night.

In its broadest form the façade resembles a traditional chalet, but inside its guest rooms are modern and minimalist, decorated in natural wood and neutral tones, with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the forest outside. Some feature balconies or strategically placed bathtubs to invite further contemplation of nature, and the same interior style marks the forest-focused restaurant. Other facilities include an infinity pool and indoor pool, a sauna, and steam room.
