Modern Design & Lively
Hudson, New York’s boutique-hotel explosion continues in fine style with the Rivertown Lodge, a 1920s cinema — later a mid-century motor inn — that’s been transformed by its independent owners and the Brooklyn design firm Workstead into one of the city’s most stylish lodgings. The look is both modern and historic, incorporating Shaker influences alongside contemporary colors, and drawing on the work of craftspeople and manufacturers from Hudson and greater New York State.

At 27 rooms it’s smallish, but large enough to sustain a lively social life within its walls; the Rivertown Tavern serves dinner and drinks as well as a weekend brunch. Meanwhile the rooms and suites themselves are sparsely but thoughtfully furnished with high-quality basics, and as striking as they are, they’re equally full of warmth, helped along by local artworks and textiles. A memorable addition to the Hudson scene.
