Contemporary Classic & Secluded
Hotel Biaclyn Hakodate is truly unique: this unusual red brick building was constructed in 1908 as a consulate serving the pre-Revolution Russian Empire. The historic house is now the Consulate Wing, joined by the very modern Wellness Wing; together they form a luxury boutique hotel whose singular aesthetic is backed up by the first-rate virtues of classic Japanese hospitality.

The two suites in the Consulate Wing display some period architectural details that are absent in the Wellness Wing, but all of the units are cut from the same contemporary-luxe cloth — textures are rich, colors are deep, and the tactile elements are immensely comfortable. The bathrooms are indulgently spa-like, and every suite comes with a private sauna.

Meanwhile a common wellness space serves all guests, complete with a jacuzzi, a plunge pool and both dry and mist saunas, for a self-directed relaxation experience. Nor is the cuisine neglected; Biacya, the restaurant, serves artful French fare under the direction of a chef who studied under Bernard Loiseau and M.O.F. Jacques Maximin. Meanwhile Sushi-dokoro Funami prepares exquisite local seafood, and Bar Hakodadi is an elegant and intimate cocktail venue.
