Modern Design & Lively
It’s a rare hotel that can shed new light on a destination as heavily traveled as Venice. The former De Majo glass factory on the island of Murano has been converted into the 104-room NH Collection Venezia Murano Villa, with the original furnace chimney kept intact at the heart of the building. It’s an apt address: the Museo del Vetro, which chronicles the island's glass-blowing tradition, is a few meters up the street, and working glassmakers remain the neighborhood’s primary industry.

This is the NH Collection ethos in a nutshell: heritage structures renovated into contemporary high-end boutique hotels that never lose touch with their historical origins. The lagoon-facing suites have unobstructed water views, and the restaurant terrace catches the late afternoon light over the water in a way that makes the vaporetto to Venice feel less urgent, though, as splendidly secluded as it is, Murano isn’t completely disconnected — a daily shuttle connects the hotel to St Mark’s Square.
