It’s not the most descriptive name in the world, but Lao Poet Hotel is as evocative as they get — and it goes a surprisingly long way to convey the spirit, if not the details, of this Vientiane boutique hotel. The exterior is imposing in all black, but the interiors are colorful, and combine clean contemporary lines with traditionally styled furniture and antiques, and in many cases murals depicting verdant scenes. Meanwhile the rooftop poolside bar is a literal breath of fresh air, and the lobby-level restaurant specializes in an ultra-fresh, upscale variant of the local culinary tradition.
