Uma Estrela : uma cozinha de grande nivel
Nestled in the countryside, this restaurant surrounded by its own orchard enjoys an idyllic setting – the soothing view of the greenery is wonderful. The bright and airy dining space has the feel of a modern and upscale conservatory. In summer, the glass walls can be opened onto the beautiful garden. Hostess Anja-Margaretha Moritz provides cordial service with a personal touch; in the kitchen, Roman Pichler meticulously prepares exquisite regional ingredients that go into his pleasingly pared-back dishes that are full of contrasts and yet exceedingly harmonious. A special mention goes to the sauces such as the tangy, refreshing dill vinaigrette with a courgette brunoise and mustard seeds served with the delicate medallions of gently cooked char. A five- or seven-course surprise menu is available. The wine pairings are excellent.
"As co-founders of the Slow Food Chef Alliance in Carinthia, we are particularly committed to sustainability, and we also visit schools to spread the word. Our old guesthouse has been extensively renovated and the modern extension was built with sustainability in mind. In our garden, we grow rare vegetables, along with chillies and fruit, and 95% of our ingredients come from the Alpe-Adria region."
