Perched above Clifton on what locals call the most expensive street in South Africa, this seven-story residence turned six-room hotel belongs to a collector with no interest in restraint. The interiors are a deliberate accumulation: gilded mirrors, porcelain vases, tapestries, sculptures, grand pianos, each room named and decorated around its own distinct obsession. The pool wraps around natural granite boulders and looks directly out to sea. Owner Hugo is occasionally in residence, though largely invisible’ the hotel’s five butlers are not. Evenings include wine, sundown canapés, and a daily changing dinner menu.
