Modern Design & Lively
Martigny stands quite literally at a crossroads: this Swiss city is connected via old Roman roads to both France and Italy, whose borders lie mere miles away. Today it’s more a cultural than a commercial destination, as well as something of a gateway to the Alps; and in Hôtel Borsari, Martigny has a hotel that pays tribute to its history via the medium of the modern design hotel.

It’s part of a city-center mixed-use development called Quartier LôDzè, which comprises a coffee bar, a wine and charcuterie bar, a restaurant called Le Cercle Kitchen, and Les Bains Publics, a modern (and extremely stylish) Roman bath complex. For its part, the hotel is a stunner as well, a heady mix of modern Swiss and German design from names like Dieter Rams alongside influences from the ancient Roman and Greek worlds. The resulting hotel is retro-tinged, but ultimately fresh, and feels intentionally low-tech in comparison with the typical modern luxury hotel.
