guntu isn’t just a hotel, it’s a floating hotel, a ship in fact, which takes guests along three short routes across the Seto Inland Sea. Onboard, however, you might feel more like you’re bedding down in a traditional Japanese ryokan thanks to the minimal yet cozy interiors of the 17 wood-paneled cabins, all imagined by architect Yasushi Horibe, who is better known for designing Japanese-style private homes. The three restaurants serve up a choice of sushi, fish cooked as you like it, and the Japanese interpretation of of Western cuisine known as yoshoku, plus there’s a café and bar for all day drinks and evening cocktails and a lounge presided over by a tea master. The wellness area is equally comprehensive, comprising hinoki cypress bathtubs, saunas, a fitness room, and massage treatments.
