Though it’s named like a country house hotel, Stanwell House is no manor, but a boutique hotel in a prominent location in Lymington, the port town where the New Forest meets the Solent. Long a hotel, it’s only recently been upgraded to its current form: a luxurious contemporary-classic boutique whose décor brilliantly complements the building’s authentic Georgian style.
The rooms and suites vary in size and layout, lending each one a unique charm. They’re divided between the original house and a later addition, but the latter are no less appealing. The comforts are substantial but not ostentatious — though one suite does open onto a private roof terrace — and the style is antique but not old-fashioned. And holding it all together is a trio of social spaces: Samphire, a modern British restaurant with diverse influences, the Orangery for afternoon tea and evening cocktails, and Salt Bar, where hotel guests and Lymington locals mingle over drinks.
