There are some places, such as this restaurant occupying the former bar of the Hotel Empòrium, that can pass almost unnoticed compared with their more famous siblings (the award-winning and elegant Empòrium is also located here) due to the fact that they are simpler in style and more affordable to the public. Despite this, Bistrot 1965 is definitely a spot with its own personality. Its cuisine, which is also overseen by brothers Màrius and Joan Jordà (they alternate the cooking between them every week), is centred around a single fixed-price menu, to which you can also add more dishes from a list of specials. The aim of the tasty dishes designed for sharing is to provide an updated take on traditional recipes and to showcase the native ingredients of the Alt Empordà region (eggs from free-range hens, duck ampordanès, Ripollés sheep yogurt, artisan cheeses, etc.).
"We apply the 3R philosophy (Recycle, Reduce and Re-use) and work in accordance with seasonality, and only with ingredients from the Alt Empordà region, such as artisanally caught fish and seafood, goat meat from herds that graze in fire-risk management areas, cereals, flour and rice from Castelló d'Empúries etc."
