As Catskills escapes go, it’s hard to get more charmingly rustic than this pocket-sized getaway near the town of Livingston Manor. The Arnold House contains a mere 16 rooms, and is set on an expansive 80-acre parcel of land, an extremely favorable ratio that sets aside plenty of space for hiking trails, a greenhouse, a barn, and an outdoor pool, in addition to The Tavern, the dining and drinking venue that is the hotel’s social nexus.
The rooms are spread across four separate buildings, all of them subtly different but cut from the same modern-rustic cloth; options range from classic double rooms in the main inn to a three- and a four-bedroom house. There’s an outdoor pool, open during the warmer months, and while the Arnold House’s lively social life is one of its great strengths, there’s much to do off site as well, including farm tours, distillery and brewery visits, even fly fishing and snow sports, depending on the season.
