Beppu is a popular spa resort thanks to its numerous hot springs, in fact it’s the largest hot spring resort in western Japan, so of course bathing is at the heart of a stay at Kannawaen. Rooms are either Western style with double beds, Japanese style with futons, or a mix of both with Japanese style rooms and a double bed. All come with indoor Japanese cypress bathtubs and outdoor bathtubs filled with free-flowing spring water from the hotel’s own completely natural hot springs, which can also be used as a public bath by hotel guests. Spa treatments are also available, and there’s a choice of two restaurants.
