Many hotels talk about taking time to slow down and switch off, but Villa Laba really means it. Not only is the hotel located in the getaway-from-it-all setting of a coastal Berber village, but there is no electric lighting or WiFi. Except for using clip on book lights for bedtime reading and a WiFi spot in the Library, guests really are expected to tune into a more natural rhythm of sunlight by day, candlelight by night, and no screens at any time. Guest rooms are stylish but slightly rustic with a soothing, natural palette and layers of tactile furnishings crafted by local artisans. They come with a mix of courtyard and ocean views, some from private gardens and terraces. Days start with a homemade spread of freshly baked bread, Msemen, jams, local honey, and eggs, and for dinner, the kitchen serves a mix of Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes. There’s an outdoor pool, a wood-heated hammam, and one spa treatment which starts with the Moroccan tradition of a steam bath and scrub and finishes with a reaxing massage.
