The popular Coucou Vert sits opposite the Aleksanterin Teatteri theatre and brings a little slice of France to Helsinki with its charming bistro atmosphere and slightly retro feel. A zinc counter set with open-backed high stools takes centre stage and is fringed by white linen-laid tables, and the efficient yet relaxed service comes courtesy of a smiley young team. The cooking is led by Gallic classics, such as Bayonne ham, onion tarte Tatin and crème brûlée, but some Finnish and wider global influences are also evident. A largely French wine list makes the perfect accompaniment.
