In its nationwide selection, the MICHELIN Guide Austria 2026 once again showcases the remarkable culinary evolution of this Alpine republic. Across the country, restaurateurs are winning over guests with extraordinary dedication, expertise, innovative concepts and an uncompromising commitment to quality. The numbers speak for themselves: The new restaurant selection features a total of 101 Starred restaurants — including two Three-Star restaurants, 19 Two-Star restaurants and 80 One-Star restaurants. An additional 61 addresses have been recognized with the Bib Gourmand for exceptional value, along with 41 Green Stars for responsible gastronomy.
Vienna's Dual Reign at the Top: Steirereck im Stadtpark and Amador Confirm Three Stars
In the MICHELIN Guide Austria 2026, the two Three-Star restaurants from the previous edition retain their distinction. Vienna's Steirereck im Stadtpark, which joined the ranks of the very finest restaurants in last year's edition, once again shines with three Stars. The Inspectors credit patron Heinz Reitbauer and the team led by Chef de Cuisine Michael Bauböck with excellent creations that bear a wholly distinctive signature, placing regional products center stage with elegance and finesse. Also in Vienna, Amador holds the MICHELIN Guide's highest honor, an accolade the restaurant has carried for years. At the sleek restaurant at Weingut Hajszan Neuman, Juan Amador captivates with modern, creative cuisine that showcases the finest ingredients in perfect balance.
One New Two-Star Restaurant
The new Austrian selection counts 19 Two-Star restaurants, including one new addition. Having earned One Star last year, Die Weinbank – Restaurant in Ehrenhausen (STM) now rises to two Stars. Patron and Chef de Cuisine Gerhard Fuchs delivers a creative surprise menu that captivated the Inspectors with depth of flavor, subtle elegance and a clear culinary vision. In one memorable dish, for instance, a delicate trout from the Feistritz river, marinated in a citrus broth, was paired with a velvety Jerusalem artichoke cream, pearls of sake caviar and a brilliant essence of lemon and Buddha's hand — a masterclass in how modern accents can be layered onto a classical foundation with great sensitivity. The focus is firmly on the full, pure flavor of the finest ingredients. Matching the exceptional kitchen is the wine expertise of co-owner and sommelier Christian Zach, who is honored — with good reason — with the MICHELIN Sommelier Award.22 New One-Star Restaurants
Among the 80 One-Star restaurants in Austria, 22 are new additions spread across all of the country's states. These include Ansitz 12 by David and Anita Senfter, where the patron brings modern cooking over open fire to a cozy restaurant inside a historic inn in Lienz (TIR). At RAR Fine Dining in Maria Alm (SBG), Maximilian Reuter delights at the foot of the Hochkönig with detailed Asian-alpine cuisine that draws in part on the family's own produce. Zimmerl in Waidhofen an der Thaya (NOE) makes a bold statement with an intriguing big-city concept in a rural setting: in sleek, urban surroundings, Bernhard Zimmerl plates an unconventional blend of Waldviertel and Japanese influences. Also of note is JOLA in Vienna (W), where Jonathan Wittenbrink and Larissa Andres serve outstanding vegan cuisine in the form of a creative surprise menu — a philosophy so committed to seasonal and regional sourcing that the restaurant also receives a Green Star. Also in the capital, Chef de Cuisine Jaeho Jung draws guests into a piece of Korea in the heart of Vienna at Addiert, an intimate chef's table experience limited to just a handful of diners.
41 Green Stars Highlight Environmental Responsibility
Since 2020, the Green Star has recognized forward-thinking concepts in the restaurant industry — establishments that stand out for their respectful approach to nature and resources, and that place equal value on raising awareness among staff and informing guests. In this year's Austrian selection, 41 restaurants are honored with a Green Star for these responsible initiatives, including eight new additions: KABUFF in Graz (STM), Gut Oberstockstall in Kirchberg am Wagram (NOE), Wirtshaus Molzbachhof in Kirchberg am Wechsel (NOE), Stiftsschmiede Fischrestaurant in Ossiach (KTN), Schankkuchl in Turnau (STM), Im Garten in Velden am Wörthersee (KTN), as well as JOLA and TIAN Bistro am Spittelberg, both in Vienna (W).
Three MICHELIN Special Awards and "Opening of the Year"
The MICHELIN Guide presents three awards recognizing exceptional talent: Service, Young Chef and Sommelier. This year, an opening is also named "Opening of the Year."The MICHELIN Service Award goes to Monika Müller of the One-Star Restaurant Die Forelle in Weissensee (KTN). At this charming, modern restaurant set against an idyllic backdrop of lake and mountain, the warm host and sommelier brings genuine empathy to every guest interaction. Always present and highly skilled, she and her well-organized team guide guests through the culinary experience that her husband Hannes Müller crafts with his nature- and product-driven "BERG.SEE.KÜCHE." She also expertly shares the story of the family's own organic farm.
The MICHELIN Young Chef Award goes to Sebastian Stock, Chef de Cuisine of Restaurant Bergfried – Chef's Table, part of a long-established family operation in Tux (TIR) that earns its first Star in the 2026 selection. In the open kitchen — itself a captivating experience for guests — he creates a nine-course surprise menu that impresses with a clear modern style and premium ingredients. Every dish is packed with intensity and flavor, his passion for cooking visible and tangible on every plate. That passion, combined with remarkable skill at such a young age, has earned him both a Star and the Young Chef Award.
The MICHELIN Sommelier Award recognizes the impressive wine expertise of Christian Zach, who at Die Weinbank in Ehrenhausen (STM) — a dual concept combining a small fine dining restaurant with a traditional inn — proves himself a walking encyclopedia of wine. An absolute authority on the subject, he engages deeply with every bottle and draws on a cellar of well over 35,000 selections. A perfect match for both the creative Star-worthy cuisine of co-owner Gerhard Fuchs, whose kitchen rises from one to two Stars this year, and the regional, seasonal cooking of the inn.
The title of Opening of the Year goes to Restaurant Genießerei am Markt – Steiermark(t)dinner by Alexander Posch in Graz (STM). Set in an unconventional location inside a market stall, the restaurant captivated the Inspectors shortly after opening with the quality and singularity of its strikingly pared-back yet expressive cuisine. That outstanding performance earned the restaurant a Star and the title of Opening of the Year.
61Restaurants With Bib Gourmand
This year's selection includes 26 new addresses bearing the beloved distinction, bringing the Guide's total to 61 Bib Gourmand establishments. The diversity of cuisines is as impressive as the geographic spread across the country. Particularly striking is the large number of warmly run family businesses. In cities and rural regions alike, menus draw on regional, Mediterranean and Asian-inspired influences, combining modern and classic preparations — with plant-based cooking continuing to grow in prominence. The restaurateurs prioritize seasonal and predominantly local products, with a strong emphasis on responsible concepts. One thing is certain across all these restaurants: They stand out for their flavorful cooking and quality ingredients — at an outstanding price-to-value ratio.Find all Bib Gourmand establishments here.

Gwendal Poullennec, MICHELIN Guide International Director, and the Inspector team are impressed by the quality and diversity of Austrian gastronomy, reaffirmed clearly in the second year of the nationwide restaurant selection. "The restaurateurs across the country deserve the utmost respect for their tremendous dedication, innovative spirit and forward-thinking concepts, which gift us a high-caliber dining scene and exciting culinary experiences. Not to be overlooked is their appreciation for local products, which often come from their own farms or nearby organic operations. Regionality and seasonality are firmly rooted in many restaurants and form the foundation of their responsible philosophy. Whether plant-based or featuring fish and meat, product quality is the top priority. On their travels across the country, the Inspectors are time and again captivated by the warmly run family establishments that make hospitality truly tangible. This is especially evident in the many Bib Gourmand-awarded establishments, which alongside their excellent value for money frequently put the region front and center. Restaurateurs also skillfully blend modern and traditional influences in their kitchens, while developing accessible concepts that are popular with young and old alike. Not least, the many newly awarded addresses --- 26 Bib Gourmands, 22 One-Star restaurants and one Two-Star restaurant --- are waiting to be discovered by you."
