Marcel Wanders designed the Donna, and it shows in ways you won't forget quickly: a giant iris eye sculpture dividing bedroom from bathroom, white tree of life figures gleaming in a cave-like subterranean spa, and themed suites that include a pinball machine in one room and a mirrored ceiling above a circular bed in another. The building itself is all whitewashed geometry above Portals Nous bay in south-west Mallorca, with a 30-metre rooftop water cascade lit up after dark. Merchants by the Sea, the hotel's restaurant, is an offshoot of a well-regarded Palma address, with a mosaic-tiled terrace and a menu built around seafood and steaks overlooking the water.
