In the Marche town of Tolentino, Interno Marche has taken a historic building and given each of its 30 rooms to a different design icon: minimalist, radical, futurist, pop, so that the hotel functions more like a design tour than a conventional stay. Frescoed ceilings in some rooms play against sharp contemporary furnishings; others go deep into bold color and mid-century references. The restaurant, L’Opificio, works through the flavors of the Marche region, and a spa with an indoor pool rounds out what is, for this part of central Italy, an unusually ambitious property.
