Seating just 12 diners, this compact restaurant in the centre of Nauders is accommodated in a 400-year-old traditional Alpine family room, now part of Alpen-Comfort-Hotel Central. The space exudes cosiness with warm wood throughout – from the lovely wooden floorboards to the walls and coffered ceiling – plus a charming tiled stove and traditional decoration. Creating a striking contrast to the historical surroundings, the modern cuisine is prepared by the team around owner Michael "Michi" Ploner and chef Oliver Mijic. You won't find a regular menu here; rather, guests are presented with a series of caricatures – and guessing their meaning is part of the experience. The set menu features numerous bold and regionally inspired courses with intriguing names. Handled by the kitchen team, the service is charming, engaging and informative – the head chef explains the dishes in a pleasing laid-back way, characteristic of Tyrol. There are both wine and non-alcoholic pairings – a standout is the apple juice infused with spruce needles.
