Fontané is located on the summit of the Sants Metges mountain in a location that the restaurant describes as “between heaven and earth”. Here, the focus is on the traditional Catalan cuisine that the Roca brothers, in a tribute to their mother (Montserrat Fontané), conjure up at the Hotel Esperit Roca, in the Castillo de Sant Julià de Ramis. The dining room, with its wooden deck and impressive views, provides the setting for cuisine that evokes the delicious dishes that their mother used to make at the original Can Roca, and which they have recreated here with a modern twist. We were pleasantly surprised by the “suquet de cabracho”, with a tomato tartare base unlike the usual preparation of this typical fish stew.
